VOCES, the Latino Heritage Network of The New York Times, has selected several pieces of Victoria Febrer’s artwork for inclusion in “Palabras, Ritmo, y Arte” a special celebration of the arts on Wednesday, October 10th at the New York Times Headquarters at 620 8th Avenue in Manhattan.

“Flight of Memory” by Victoria Febrer and DysTorpia Media Project. This exhibition will consist of workshops, art exhibitions, and artist talks. A selection of video art, installations and performances will be presented at: Queens Museum of Art, Immigrant Movement International, Outpost Artists Resources, and Local Project Art Space. “Flight of Memory”, created by Victoria Febrer in collaboration with filmmaker Pedro J. Padilla, was exhibited at the Digital Graffiti Festival in Alys Beach, Florida on June 8th and 9th. Digital Graffiti is the world’s first projection art festival, with artists using the latest technologies to project their original works onto the town’s iconic white walls. “Flight of Memory”, was selected from over 200 submissions from all over the world. “Flight of Memory” a project I created in collaboration with filmmaker Pedro J. Padilla, has been selected as a finalist in the Digital Graffiti Festival in Alys Beach, Florida. Exploring the way in which memory selectively simplifies and reduces the features of those places that are recalled, this piece conjures the image of a seascape from memory, bringing it to light through the flight of a flock of seagulls. As the birds approach the viewer, rather than obstructing the view of the sky and the sea, they illuminate and reveal it. A peaceful seascape emerges from the void with each beat of the seagulls’ wings, visible for only an instant. […]

Padilla was included in the festival Under the Subway Video Art Night where artists’ works were projected under the elevated 7 train in Long Island City. Victoria Febrer is participating again in this year’s TriBeCa Open Artist Studios Tour (TOAST). Now in its 16th year, The TriBeCa Open Artist Studio Tour (TOAST) is an open invitation to the public to take a free, self-guided tour through artists’ studios in TriBeCa. For a few short days every spring, New Yorkers are invited to enter the fascinating world of some of Manhattan’s finest artists. TOAST attendees are able to visit the artists’ studios, view their work and talk to the artists themselves and will have the opportunity to purchase works directly from the artists. “Since I have always been drawn to the sea, it is a luxury to live inside of the incredible energy of this great urban center but at the same time have the calm of the sea just a few steps away.” She lives off her art but confesses that she spends many hours alone in her studio: “By nature, this is a solitary profession, because of that I believe that it is important for artists to participate actively in their communities.
